REDKITE Self Defence, Assertiveness & Self Awareness Workshop
Muaythai Boxing expert Rachel Joyner previously worked for the Probation Service and Young Peoples services where she worked directly with people with varying degrees of behavioural issues and also delivered Accredited Group Sessions to adult offenders.
After running her Gym The rRed Kite School of Thai & Kickboxing in Preston, singlehandedly for nearly 15 years, she decided to hand over the reins to her Coach Will Walker and look to expand what REDKITE has to offer by introducing workshops specifically linking her passions, previous elements of her work experience along with her love of health, fitness and mental and physical well being.
She has looked at issues that currently affect people on a daily basis and is endeavoring to develop programmes and workshops that can help people feel physically and emotionally at their best.
Redkite Plus offer a three hour workshop (approx) the majority of the workshop focuses on simple defence techniques (not Muaythai) whilst covering explanations of minimal force and what that means with regards to defending yourself. We also cover issues such as domestic violence, self respect, social media pressures for young women and girls.

Though the topic is serious, we aim to ensure that the participants have fun, feel comfortable and able to debate and discuss the issues whilst getting involved in some simple yet effective defence moves.
REDKITE Street Smart, Muaythai Is My Gang Workshop
In August 2019, Rachel wrote the Street Smart Kids workshop. Working with Preston Police and St Johns Ambulance, we ran a 1 day workshop that encompassed not only muaythai training but also some other elements covering issues that young people face today.
In future events, Redkite Plus would hope to be able to continue to work with Preston Police who do a special talk specifically around knife crime with the older children and talk about Laws related to gangs such as 'Joint Enterprise' and speaking about their experience of victim impact.and
St Johns Ambulance deliver age appropriate first aid.

Further Details
The workshop to include Muaythai training. This is with the view of introducing new people to the sport of Muaythai. It is to promote the idea of being a part of a team, striving towards fitness and positive life goals with the backing and support of their team mates and the club as a whole.
Interlinked with this and utilising my previous experience as a Probation Service Officer and Youth Worker, I discuss gang culture and knife crime whilst looking at Consequential Thinking and look into how to make a well informed choice. Looking at and being aware of the consequences of their decisions. This is not solely focused on knife crime but also lends itself to various challenges young people will face over the course of their young lives and hopefully be a skill transferable into adulthood.
I coach some simple break out techniques.
I make the day to be fun but informative.
The workshop is suitable for ages 6 up to age 17.
